If you’re a horror or thriller movies junkie like me and spend most of your day looking for good new movies to watch, you’re at the right place! Here’s a list of movies that I love and recommend. These movies will leave you feeling satisfie
Dabbe:
There’s a reason why Dabbe ranks number 1 in this list THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR THE WEAK HEARTED!
Dabbe (D@bbe) is a Turkish horror movie series. 3 out of 7 movies are currently available on Netflix in Pakistan. Luckily, Dabbe 3 and Dabbe 5 which are considered the best parts of this series by many are available on Netflix. These movies are based on exorcism and jinn possession (sounds like basic horror movies right?) I KID YOU NOT THIS MOVIE IS LIKE NO OTHER. What’s distinctive about this movie from Hollywood flicks is that it’s based on Islamic Jinn mythology.
I can’t stress enough on how scary that is as it’s based off on our beliefs. This movie is not themed on the basic jump scares rather it has other elements that make it so SCARY. The overall theme of this film is haunting with Quranic verses being recited in the background and black magic being performed in the ways that we have heard of, even the characters carry an air of horror about them. This movie is for the hardcore horror movies fans out there
Panic room:
Imdb rating: 6.8
Panic room is directed by David Fincher, who is also the director of ‘Gone Girl’. Panic room is a psychological thriller. The scriptwriter of this movie is David Koepp, who is known for his work in ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Spiderman’ A gripping and fast paced movie and will surely keep you at the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end of the movie.
Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) along with her daughter, Sarah Altman (Kristen Stewart) move into their new house in Manhattan. While visiting the house, they notice a special panic room. The room is built in a way that no one can break in and equipped with security system. When a trio of intruders break in. the mother and daughter take shelter in the panic room. However what the intruders want has been kept in the panic room. This movie will make you question “What would I do” a lot of times!
Train to Busan:
Imdb rating: 7.6
Train to Busan, Yeon Sang-ho’s horror- filled movie is by far one of the best zombie movies out there. This movie is not a silly zombie movie. It is action packed, exciting and scary and will make you go Wow!
This movie follows a workaholic father Seok Woo (Yoo Gong) taking his daughter Su-an (Kim Su-an), who is no longer close with him, to meet his ex-wife on a high speed train. Little do they know what awaits them is an apocalypse. A teenage girl is the last person to get on the train. Her veins are swollen and she looks sick. When the girl claims her first victim mayhem starts, the multitudes of zombies stop at nothing.
Red Eye:
Imdb rating: 6.4
Red eye is one of my favorite thrillers! Red eye is a 2005 American thriller film directed by Wes Craven. Lisa (Rachel McAdams), a hotel desk manager meets a cute guy Jackson (Cillian Murphy) at the airport before departing for Miami. It turns out that he gets seated beside Lisa, Its all fun and games for Lisa till he reveals to her that her father has been held hostage and her help is needed in an assassination plot against one of the guests staying at the hotel
The shallows:
Imdb rating: 6.3
The shallows is probably not the best shark movie out there but it’s still a good watch
The shallows features Blake Lively (Nancy) who goes to a secluded beach to surf. After being attacked by shark she is left stranded just a couple of yards from the shore. Alone and wounded, she battles with the sharks for her survival. This is just a 90 minutes long movie but very entertaining and gripping.
The Forest:
Imdb rating: 4.8
Judging from the low ratings, I had low expectations from this movie. However after watching the movie, I was very impressed and wondered why it is poorly rated. This movie takes place in Japan’s Aokigahara “Suicide Forest”. What’s creepy about this is that this forest actually exists and is a well-known suicide spot. It’s a bit light on the horror and jump scares but overall a good watch.
Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones star) in dual role as Jess and her twin Sara. When Jess disappears, Sara travels to the Suicide forest to look for her. This movie is slow paced but at the end of the movie, when you connect the dots, you’ll realize how thought out this movie is.
