The annual Pantene Hum Bridal Couture Week (BCW) is a glitzy affair, and while it’s something of a fashion show tradition to have celebrities walk the runway alongside models, the’showstopper’ name is causing some controversy. One such person is YouTuber Arslan Naseer, who enjoys the support of actors Sajal Aly and Haroon Shahid. Actors-should not be refer to as “showstoppers.” Arsalan Naseer.
Naseer walked the ramp for designer Humayun Alamgir. He said he enjoyed the modelling experience but deemed it improper to refer to actors as showstoppers when the Pakistani modelling industry is already brimming with talent. “Maybe consider calling our walks ‘guest appearances’ or ‘cameo’ next time,” he suggested.
The 19th edition of the BCW took place in Lahore from December 10 to 12 and was a three-day tournament. Along with the models, a number of actors and singers walked the runway.

Yumna Zaidi walked for Asifa Nabeel, Mawra Hocane for Rici Melion East’s Collection, and Minal Khan for FAS Design Studio, to name a few notable names who dazzled the crowd. ‘Showstoppers’ are celebrities who walk the runway, and it seemed like every brand had one (or more).

These’showstoppers’ also provide some memorable moments, such as Alizeh Shah being up by Shazia Manzoor after she slipped and Junaid Khan carrying Mansha Pasha up onto the runway.
The fashion show relied heavily on celebrities to bring glamour to the event and actually be “showstoppers,” yet Naseer’s premise remains valid.
Professional runway models work extremely hard to earn an opportunity to walk the runway, and for the’showstopper’ title to be bestow on actors or guests who are only appearing to add razzle dazzle to the name and increase viewing — it appears to be a disrespect to the models. The addition of the guests is thrilling and draws additional attention to both the event and the designer clothing, but it only seems fitting that those who have dedicated their life to the profession be the centre of attention.
