Angelina Jolie’s Emergence on Instagram
The prime reason that Angelina Jolie has made a debut on social media is because of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan . She feels compelled to emerge now that there is an incumbent message to portray. She wants to call the media’s attention to the plight of the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls.
Angelina Jolie, who is a famous American celebrity, is also a Special Envoy for the UNHCR. She is known for her peacekeeping efforts for women’s rights and refugees in war zones. She has worked in many countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In her post that has gone viral and within days has received more than 1.9M likes, she shares a letter from an Afghan girl talking about her fear of pursuing education now that Taliban have taken over.
The anonymous girl states in her write up about the Taliban:
…we are all afraid of them, and we think all our dreams are gone. We think our rights have been violated.
Angelina Jolie responds in the caption of her post by saying:
Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely. So I’ve come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights.
Angelina Jolie received more than 2.7 million followers on Friday, the day she launched her account. And within a few hours she had more than 700,000 likes. The next day the followers climbed up to 4.8M. And the likes and followers are still climbing. On the bio of her account she writes, ‘Mom, filmmaker, Special Envoy for UN…’
Thus using her influence, Angelina Jolie has gotten an important message viral. And it seems that in the future too, she will be able to use her impact on the media to receive the support she desires for her humanitarian cause.
