The singers announced their split on social media today. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to stop our romantic relationship,” they announced in a joint statement. “However, our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever.” “We began our friendship as best friends and shall remain best friends.”

Cabello and Mendes met almost five years ago in 2014, when Cabello was on a concert tour with her former girl group Fifth Harmony, according to Seventeen Magazine. With their collaborative single ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ in 2015, Mendes aided Cabello’s move out of Fifth Harmony and into a solo act. After they were seen together multiple times in 2019, it was widely assumed that they were dating.
Mendes, a 23-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter, has popular songs like “Lost in Japan” and “Treat You Better.” Cabello, a Cuban-born American singer, catapulted to international success as a solo artist in 2018 with her song “Havana.”
