Fourteen centuries ago, Allah (SWT) sent down his final Revelation in the form of The Holy Quran through his last messenger, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the ultimate source of guidance for the entire humanity to seek knowledge and truth by adhering to its teachings.
From the day when the Holy Quran was revealed till the final hour, this book remains the sole guide for the entire humanity and it has been proved time and again in one of the ways where the Quran describes various scientific phenomena explicitly and accurately. And in a way, God Almighty has made the modern scientific discoveries a source for searching and finding Him.
Let’s have a look at the various subject lines that the Quran explicitly and accurately discusses which has been a popular source of amazement for even scientists of every age.
Embryological development of a Human body:
The Holy Quran briefly comprehends the stages of embryonic development in the womb, much of which was unknown to scientists until only recently when modern scientific discoveries have been able to reveal the stages of embryological development.
The Holy Quran mentions:
“Verily, We created man from an extract of clay; Then We placed him as a drop of sperm in a safe depository. Then we fashioned the sperm into a clot; then We fashioned the clot into a shapeless lump; then We fashioned bones out of this shapeless lump; then We clothed the bones with flesh; then We developed it into another creation. So, blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.” Holy Qur’an, 23:13-15
When one notices, he may find how this Ayah accurately dictates the sequence and details of how a human being develops in the womb in the simplest of manner.
On Expanding Universe and Big Bang Theory:
A century prior, the world’s best minds had proposed that the universe consists of infinity, and it has always existed without having the need to be created.
However, the Holy Quran stated the beginning of the universe differently and accurately almost 1400 years earlier, and perfectly described the inception of the universe in Chapter 21, Verse 30:
“Do not the disbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were a closed-up mass (ratqan), then We opened them out? And We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? “
Here, the term Ratqan has been used that refers to an enclosed mass. Ratqan also stands for darkness. While this explanation perfectly depicts how the universe was in its early stage, which was later stretched out to what we see today in the form of the galaxy and universe and the unknown worlds beyond.
It is also to be noted that the same verse proceeds to explain the basis of life that is, the water. And this now has been an established scientific fact.
Similarly, the Holy Quran also takes up the topic of the universe’s expansion. The phenomenon has been described in the Holy Quran as:
“And it is We who have built the Universe with [Our creative] power and and We are still expanding it.” (Quran 51:47)
Recently, astronomers not only confirmed the beginning of the universe but have also discovered the existence of the Dark mysterious force that continues to push the galaxies apart and causes the expansion of the universe. Moreover, this expansion is speeding up.
Stephen Hawkings, who happens to be one of the most celebrated physicists in modern times, in his book “A Brief History of Time” quotes, “The discovery that the universe is expanding was one of the great intellectual revolutions of the 20th century.”
But the Quran once again overtakes modern sciences and mentioned this occurrence centuries ago.
Barriers Between The Sea:
We all are well aware of the barrier between the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean water.
Modern scientific research claims that there is a barrier between the meeting point of the two different seas. And this barrier divides the two seas to maintain the temperature, salinity, and density of each.
But did you know that the Holy Quran mentioned this surprising fact fourteen hundred years ago?
Allah (SWT) mentions this astounding piece of information in Chapter 55 of the Holy Book:
“He has set free the two seas meeting together. There is a barrier between them. They do not transgress.” (Quran 55:19-20)
On Mountains as basis to the Earth’s Structure:
Mountains are among the greatest physical features of the landscape. What lies beneath their surface has been an impassable enigma for the human mind.
On the topic of the structural foundation of mountains and the role they play in maintaining the stability of the Earth’s structure, both the Quran and Science are seen on the same page.
Though, this mystery has been unveiled in the Quran over a millennium ago:
“Have We not made the earth a bed, And the mountains as pegs? Holy Qur’an (78:7-8)
In this verse, mountains have been described as “awtādan” meaning roots or pegs. Surprisingly, modern geologists have discovered that mountains project deeply etched roots into the Earth’s ground surface.
Furthermore, the Quran also opens up regarding the Mountain’s overall position and state of being.
“The mountains that you see, you think they are stationary while they are constantly floating like the floating of clouds. Such is the work of Allah Who made everything firm and strong.” Holy Quran (27:89)
In this verse, the Quran declares that although mountains visually appear stationary to us but in they float like clouds in reality. Now, there are two conditions on the basis of which this fact can be in accordance with reality. Either, the mountain ranges are floating on top of the Earth or the Earth’s rotation is the cause of the floating mountains.
Believe us or not, but both of these settings are true! The Earth is indeed rotating and on top of that, the mountain ranges too, are floating on top of the Earth’s crust.
The Miracle of the Iron:
Iron is one of the most highlighted minerals in the Qur’an. In Surat al-Hadid, meaning Iron, people were informed about the source of iron, and that where it comes from in the times when mankind only knew that it rusts, bents, and definitely NOT of its origin!
“And We also sent down iron in which there lies great force, and which has many uses for mankind” (Quran 57:25)
The Quran seems to imply that this mineral was something that was “sent down”. One may think that the term Anzalna, used in this verse, could be an analogy that dictates iron as a blessing from Allah (SWT) given to benefit his people.
But you’ll be astonished to know that this Ayah is just not any metaphor, but it has an astonishing reality attached to it as this word usage had not been taken in the Quran except literally!
We realize that this verse holds a very crucial scientific miracle because of the modern findings of the astronomers that have disclosed that the iron found on Earth has come from giant stars in outer space for, the Sun’s temperature is insufficient for the formation of iron on Earth.
Quran on the Cerebrum (Naseyah):
Once, one of the evil unbelievers happened to forbid Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from praying at the Kaaba, and then and there, Ayah 15 from Surah Al’ Alaq was revealed that mentioned:
“No! If he does not stop, we will take him by the forelock (front of the head), a lying, sinful forelock (front of the head)!”
Now one may think, why did the Quran explicitly indicate the front of the head as being lying and sinful? Why didn’t it just declare the person as lying and sinful? And how do sinfulness or lying relate to the front of the head?
According to studies, frontal lobes of the brain are inspected as the center of the action of lying. All of the mental activities related to evil thoughts, lying, or concealing are carried therein and then transferred to sensory organs. The intention of lying and committing a sin is planned here and are executed through muscular or communication organs.
We live in a modern age where the beliefs in a certain subject or idea are based on the materialistic aspect of it or otherwise scientific explanations that are attached to it.
The Holy Quran, which is the last revelation from the Almighty contains knowledge and guidance in all aspects of lives. It also happens to discuss certain scientific facts and predicts the coming events, that couldn’t have been known prior 14th century.
While this scientific knowledge ranges from basic arithmetic to the most advanced topics of astrophysics, biology, and cosmology, it is obvious that without the help of God it would’ve been impossible for a man living in the Arabian wilds and that too, without holding any academic experience to even dream such things, let alone predicting them with such startling precision.
