Winter is almost here and the absolute joy of walking in the sun and warm drinks is a delight we all enjoy. But one of the major problem and drawback of this season is dry, patchy and irritated skin. Of course, one cannot follow the summer skin care regime in winters as it will result in worse skin conditions. With that being said, here are some easy and simple skin care tips which you can follow in winters to get rid of dry skin.
1. Use Cream-Based Products
As winter approaches, invest in cream based face products, toners and moisturisers. Apply them at least twice a day all over your body to combat dryness.
2. Petroleum Jelly
The excessive use of petroleum jelly in winters over your lips and skin can do wonders to the patchy skin. It can heal your cracked lips and prevent the skin from getting chapped.
3. Use Appropriate Oils
During the winter months, it’s necessary to opt for the right oil for your skin. Avoid using cinnamon and tee tree oils. Coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil, rose hip seed oil are some oils which are great for your skin in the cold season with their anti-flammatory, strengthening, easily absorption properties.
4. Wear Non-Irritating Clothes
The direct contact between woollen clothes and body can cause irritation and itchiness to the skin. As an alternative, wear layers of soft clothes against your skin and then cover with heavier and warmer pieces of clothing. Also, wear mittens and socks that won’t irritate your skin.
5. Stay Hydrated
Because of the cold weather we often forgets to drink water which can result in dryness of the skin. So, drink at least eight glasses of water a day to prevent this from happening.
6. Eat Right
Sometimes one of the reasons of dry and patchy skin can be the lack of food and supplements, “One should take supplements or food that contain omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids”, as said by Barbara R. Reed. Flaxseed oil and Fish oil contain both of these fatty acids.
7. Don’t Over Exfoliate
Exfoliation of skin helps in the removal of dry and dead skin cells and revitalising them. But, the overdoing of exfoliation especially in the winters can result in wrecking of the skin. In harsh winters, exfoliate your skin only once a week.
8. Home Remedies
It’s really hard to go out in such harsh weather conditions to get something for your skin care regime. So, try some homemade face packs and remedies.
To combat dry and patchy skin, use a mixture of milk and banana. Apply it on your face and neck and wash it off after 15 minutes.
This winters nourish your skin with the goodness of milk cream. Mix it with honey and apply on your face and neck for 20 minutes to see perfectly moisturised skin.
